Membership Requirements

Information required from applicants that wish to apply for membership of the Textile Recycling Association.

In order to ensure that applications to the association are considered in a fair, consistent and transparent manner we ask that all applicants submit the following information when they make their application.

1. A copy of your Waste Carriers Licence which should have been held for at least 1 year (available from the Environment Agency – England, Natural Resources Wales, Scottish Environment Protection Agency, Northern Ireland Environment Agency)*.

2. A copy of your Environmental Permit (or Exemption) which should have been held for at least 1 year. (Exemptions are available from the Environment Agency – England, Natural Resources Wales, Scottish Environment Protection Agency, Northern Ireland Environment Agency)*.

3. Proof that your business pays business rates (if business rates are included within a rental agreement that you may for the premises that you operate from then please submit a copy of your rental agreement).

4. Proof of your business’s written health a safety policy. The law requires this if your business employs 5 or more people. If you employ less than this, it is not required.

5. Proof of a written Fire Risk Assessment – A legal requirement since October 2006 (which replaces a fire certificate).

6. Proof of compulsory employers liability insurance.

7. Proof of public liability insurance.

* required only if your business transports or handles textile waste and/or other waste streams.

Each applicant for full membership is required to have traded legally and in a solvent manner for a minimum period of three years. Organisations which have traded legally and in a solvent manner for a minimum period of one year but less than three years can apply to be associate members.
